our story

How it all began…

In 2005 we opened our small, family-operated restaurant; Hurricane’s Café & Deli in Greene, Maine. The cafe was a collaboration between lifelong restauranteurs Phil & Lorraine Wilbur, and their daughter; endearingly nicknamed “Hurricane Kirsten” & Joe Shovilin. Our unique, homemade soup & chowder offerings quickly made a mark with the locals, and when Mainers like something, they tell all of their friends! Within a couple of years, we were making so much soup that we knew that we would have to expand and move production out of our little restaurant kitchen and into a bigger facility. In 2009 we did just that, and Hurricane’s Soup & Chowder was born!

Since our small beginnings, our soup & chowder production has nearly doubled production every year. Through this growth, we have remained family-owned and operated; with a huge focus on using our local Maine resources and collaborating with local Maine farmers. We are committed to bringing our customers the freshest, highest quality soups & chowders on the market - the only USDA inspected soup made in Maine.

15 years later, we now ship our refrigerated soups all over the United States and have developed an uncompromising frozen version for as far away as Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore. We launched our newest retail line of premium soups in a 16-ounce frozen bag in box in 2020.

We proudly partner with local producers of Maine dairy, Maine potatoes, and Maine lobster to make Hurricane's Premium Soup & Chowder. It's delicious in your bowl, and good for Maine's economy.
